For the first time in the English language, the complete translated version of the brilliant Tafseer As-Sa’di by Shaikh Abdur Rahman Bin Nasir as-Sa’di (Rahim Ullah).

Tafseer as-Sa‘di (Arabic title Tayseer al-Kareem ar-Rahmaan fi Tafseer Kalaam al-Mannaan) is a contemporary commentary on the Qur’an that is well known in the Arab world.

Drawing on the classical heritage of Qur’anic exegesis, Shaykh as-Sa‘di focuses on highlighting the meanings of verses in a concise yet eloquent and clear style that is accessible to both the well-versed scholar and the ordinary reader. In addition to the simplicity of Shaykh as-Sa‘di’s writing, it is also articulate and eloquent. Consequently, for those newly acquainted with Tafsir and those new to Islam, this Tafsir provides an uncomplicated, deep and insightful comprehension into the meaning and explanation of the Qur’an. The uniqueness of this Tafsir is in the style used to explain the Ayat in a way similar to everyday writing, without listing the various prophetic sayings or statements of the scholars of Tafsir, which Shaykh As-Sa’di used as a basis of his Tafsir.

He explains the meanings and rulings indicated by the text without unnecessary elaboration, references to stories and reports of dubious provenance, or introducing ideas that are not relevant to the meaning of the verses. He also avoids detailed discussion of grammar, except in rare instances where it may help to clarify the meaning. His style is to mention what he thinks is the correct interpretation, without referring to other views, except in cases where there is also strong evidence to support the other view.

About The Author

Shaykh Abdur Rahman Nasir as-Sa’di was one of the foremost prominent scholars from the Arabian Peninsula. He was born in the city of ‘Unaizah, Saudi Arabia, in the year 1309 AH (1885 CE).

He began studying Islam at an early age. He excelled in his studies to such an extent that his fellow students asked him to tutor them; thus, not only was he a student, but he was also a teacher at the same time.

He studied various Islamic sciences and disciplines from some of the leading scholars of that area, as well as some famous visiting scholars. He authored many works, which are in print today.

Shaykh as-Sa’di passed away in the year 1376 AH (1956 CE) at the age of 69, and was buried in the city of ‘Unaizah.
